10:30 a.m., August 15, 2012
Residents with large animals evacuated due to the fires are reminded to take their animals to Creek Hollow Ranch in Ramona, 25279 Creek Hollow Drive. No other site is accepting large animals from residents.
The Department of Animal Services, assisted by partner groups and volunteers, worked throughout the night and Wednesday morning to assist residents who could not evacuate their own animals and to evacuate animals whose owners could not be found. As of Wednesday morning, the animal response teams had evacuated 45 animals, including horses, goats and pigs. Those animals were taken to Kroghs Ranch on Highway 79 in Warner Springs.
Anyone who needs assistance evacuating their animals should call Animal Services at 619-236-2341.
On Wednesday, evacuation orders remained in effect for the communities of Ranchita and the small community of San Felipe, off Highway 78. The Department of Animal Services is assisting residents with small animals who arrive at the temporary evacuation point at Warner Springs High School, 30951 Highway 79.
CAL FIRE said several closures also remained in effect: Highway 78 between Scissors Crossing and Borrego Springs, S3 between Scissors Crossing and Borrego Springs, S22 between S2 and Borrego Springs.
