Fire in Mexico - Updated 2:30pm 11-2-2011

UPDATE - 2:30pm 11/2/2011

The fire near the community of Tijuana and is currently a 600 acre wild fire that is threatening the communities in and around Tijuana.  The fire is threatening structures in Mexico, but is still a couple of miles south of the border.

Through the Border Agency Fire Council (BAFC), Cal FIRE is assisting with one strike team and may send one aeriel asset.

A Cal FIRE Public Information Officer is enroute and additional information will be provided periodically.

There is a large column of smoke visible in the East County due to a fire in Mexico and crews are monitoring its progress.

THERE IS NO VEGETATION FIRE ON THE U.S. SIDE OF THE BORDER. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FIRE DISPATCH CONCERNING REPORTS OF A FIRE OR SMOKE NEAR THE BORDER.

There is a fire in Mexico south of Tecate Peak. Creating heavy smoke and ash. Copter 1 observed a heavy smoke and ash cloud moving well offshore. Residents of Imperial Beach report ash falling in their area. Cal FIRE is  monitoring the situation and report that the fire is south of the border.
