Banner Fire Prompts Evacuations (Update #1)

CALFIRE reports that the Banner Fire has burned about 1,000 acres and is spreading rapidly toward Granite Peak.

The County Emergency Operations Center is activated at a Level 1 staffing pattern. County staff are monitoring the situation and working closely with CAL FIRE and San Diego County Sheriff?s deputies.

The Sheriff?s Department is evacuating 100 homes in Shelter Valley.

 An evacuation center has been set up at Borrego Springs High School, 2281 Diegueno Drive.

Highway S-2 is being closed between Scissors Crossing and Shelter Valley.  Highway 78 and S-22 are also being closed in the fire area.
